Debra Messing of Will & Grace and The Mysteries of Laura will be joining the ABC three-hour special, remaking Dirty Dancing. Debra is said to play the role of Marjorie Houseman, the mother of “Baby” Houseman. Baby has been cast as Abigail Breslin, from Little Miss Sunshine.
So far these are the only cast announcements made on the production, but other information is available. The original writers of the screenplay, Allison Shearmur and Eleanor Bergstein, will be the executive producers of the special. Jessica Sharzer will be writing the special, with music by Peer Astrom and Adam Anders. Choreography will be created by Andy Blankenbuehler, and the director will be Wayne Blair.
We’ll report more casting announcements as they are made, as no news has been released yet about the potential players for Johnny Castle, the young dance instructor that steals Baby’s heart.
